Rocchette

A beautiful beach dominated by a castle overlooking the sea

The hamlet of Rocchette, just outside Castiglione della Pescaia, is a very famous seaside resort named after the Rocchette Fortress, a watchtower dominating the cliff overlooking the sea, built in the 12th century and later used by the Medici family to defend the coast from attack by pirates. In the second half of the 18th century, the Chapel of the Madonna del Carmine alle Rocchette was built near the Fortress, to replace a previous medieval church.
After the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1861, the tower lost its defensive functions and was used as an active lighthouse until the first half of the 20th century, when the fortress was sold to private owners.

Surrounded by a beautiful pine forest, the golden beach is bathed in crystal-clear waters, which range from green to bright blue in colour and are reminiscent of the allure of the Caribbean.

The seabed, mostly sandy, which slopes gently into the sea, makes it ideal for families and children. There are bathing facilities, bars, restaurants and several stretches of free beach.

The initial rocky section on the castle slopes, with numerous coves accessible only by sea, is recommended for diving enthusiasts, who can enjoy the beauty of the seabeds and caves, where fish and crustaceans hide.
