Official tourism site of the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia
The seaside at Castiglione della Pescaia is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy!
With multiple awards, including the FEE Blue Flag and a five-sail ranking by Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano for the quality of the sea, the cleanliness of the beaches, the natural beauty and environmental care, for several years it has also topped the Italian rankings of ‘Bandiere Verdi’, the accolade given to the beaches most suitable for children, selected and promoted by 2,860 Italian and foreign paediatricians.
The coasts of Castiglione della Pescaia are characterised by soft, light sand and a crystal-clear sea, with sloping sandy seabeds. Many beaches have bathing facilities that offer bathers the best services and assistance, while many others are free beaches, which you can access freely to enjoy the sea in its most natural state.
From June to September, the shores nearest to the town provide a rescue support service with qualified personnel.
The beaches can be divided into the western beach, which stretches from the canal port to Punta Ala, and the eastern beach, which runs in a southerly direction from the canal to Marina di Grosseto.
The westerly beach, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the castle that overlooks the town from the medieval village, has sandy beaches that alternate with rocky promontories jutting into the sea and outcropping cliffs, as in the Capezzolo area or in Rocchette, further to the north. The beach is easily accessible on foot from the town centre, or along the cycle path that runs northwards. The western side ends at Punta Ala, with its famous marina, the scene of numerous sailing regattas, as well as spacious beaches that offer breathtaking sunsets.
The eastern beach has more spacious sandy shores, behind which dunes alternate with an abundant and extensive pine forest. Here you’ll also find Green Beach, equipped with bathing facilities for people with disabilities.
The eastern beach features long stretches of completely free coastline, and is therefore a favourite area for surfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts. The eastern beaches can also be easily reached along the cycle path that runs from the centre of Castiglione della Pescaia to Marina di Grosseto.
